Social Life and Travelling

With so many fantastic bars/pubs/clubs in Brighton we are never short of places to go.  We have regular Friday and Saturday nights in the Pub, Cinema, Out to a Restaurant or any other place that the guys want to go... and we stay out late if we choose!!!  We support Heavy Load's campaign to give people with learning disabilities greater control of their night out. We have been even known to throw a party or two for friends and relatives.

We do believe in supporting events aimed at people with learning disabilities for the benefit of our housemates such as meeting friends and other people with learning disabilities.  It is important though that we help housemates access their social activities in a mainstream environment as much as possible.

Small Opportunities organises age appropriate holidays and travel. Although it is important to us to give to our travellers as much independence and choice as possible all our activities are supervised. We aim to keep our supervision to a level that maintains safety, but gives the space any 19 to 30 year old needs.

Holidays to date:

  • Backpacking around West Cork, A beach bums holiday in St Tropez, Snowboarding in Spain, Surf trip to Cornwall, Malta, Kos, New York, Ski Trip to Italy

    Future Trips:
    • Las Vegas (in September 2011), West Coast USA

Our housemates may make friends with the people in their house or in one of our other houses we support.  These friendships are nurtured, as shared experience can lead people to making some of the best friends a person will ever have.  We also encourage our housemates to keep up existing friendships and develop new ones outside of their house.  They are encouraged to visit friends or family and invite them over to their place too.  Their guests may even make friends with the other people in their house.  That's one of the ways groups of friends grow.
