Our Support

Our business is to provide 24hr care and support to our service users, We aim to make this as transparent as possible.  That means it is invisible to our clients therefore providing a normal, clinical free environment.  At the same time it is important that our housemates know support is there when they need it.  So they can feel safe, secure and reassured at all times.

We support our service users in money management, travelling around town, basically without listing pages upon pages...anything we all do in our daily lives of living alone or in a house-share (Most of the things mainstream people take for granted).  We help them with all these activities but also strive to teach them 'how to do it for themselves'.  If they can't manage it, it does'nt matter, at least they have had an opportunitiy to try for themselves; with discretion we can help them feel a sense of achievement and pride.  After all our housemates are adults!

Alongside the traditional support with all the day-to-day activities involved in living independently, SmallOpportunities has a clear goal; to give young adults with learning difficulties 'Choice'. Our aim is to create a safe environment that allows the young adults in the SmallOpportunities house-share or on one of our trips the opportunity to make decisions for themselves. Together with choice we believe that the lifestyle and activities that the young adult follows can be age appropriate. That means they truly experience activities that any other person within the same age group would.

At the same time as promoting independence we fully appreciate that sometimes people with learning difficulties may not want to try certain activities. We place importance on discerning whether or not someone is genuinely interested in an activity.

Improving confidence plays a large role in our provision of support.  Confidence not only in attempting a task or activity but the confidence to trust ones own personal ability.
